Community guidelines
Citizen Bills exists to help Marylanders participate in legislation. To keep this a place people can actually use, we ask everyone to follow these guidelines.
What's welcome
- Talking about bills, statutes, policy positions, and how to advocate for change.
- Sharing personal experience relevant to a policy area.
- Organizing around shared interests through open groups.
- Constructive disagreement — position debates make policy better.
What's not welcome
- Naming private individuals or specific communities/associations. If your point requires calling out a neighbor, a specific HOA/condo association, a company, or another named private party, revise it to describe the pattern instead. This applies to group names, group posts, bill suggestions, and comments.
- Harassment, slurs, threats, or targeting anyone based on identity.
- Doxxing — publishing personal contact information or addresses.
- Spam, off-topic promotion, and repeated identical posts.
- Impersonation of legislators, government officials, or other users.
Groups are open
Any signed-in member can join any group. Don't share anything in a group you wouldn't share publicly. Group names are prefixed with "Friends of" on display — keep the stored name to your group's focus, not a place or person.
Moderation
Editors review submissions and on-bill community suggestions before they appear publicly. Content that violates these guidelines will be rejected with a reason. Repeated violations may result in your account being restricted.
Verified ratings and privacy
Ratings from address-verified Maryland residents are counted separately from unverified ratings. Your address is never displayed publicly. See our privacy policy for details on what we store.
Reporting
